Curved and manual treadmills

A curved treadmill has no motor. You drive the belt yourself, so it speeds up and slows down exactly as you do, which builds a more natural, powerful stride and burns noticeably more energy than a motorized deck. It is the format you see in serious performance gyms and conditioning programs.

Slat-belt treadmills

Slat-belt treadmills use individual rubber slats on bearings instead of a single thin belt. The result lasts far longer, runs quieter, and is easier on the joints. The motorized Woodway range (the 4Front, Vive, Pro, Pro XL, and Ridgerunner) and the TRUE Stryker are the slat-belt machines to look at, and they are the closest thing to a lifetime treadmill you can buy.
