Stairmaster
Few machines burn calories and build lower-body strength as efficiently as climbing, with far less joint impact than running. We carry the full StairMaster range plus the complete Jacobs Ladder lineup, and we are an authorized dealer serving the Bay Area with our own delivery, installation, and service. Climb on a few in our San Mateo showroom before you decide. Details below.

Jacobs Ladder climbers
The Jacobs Ladder is a machine most people have never tried and few dealers carry: an angled ladder you climb on your hands and feet, fully self-paced, so it moves only as fast as you do. The forward-leaning position takes strain off the lower back while delivering a serious full-body cardio workout, which is why athletic and performance programs rely on it. We carry the original Jacobs Ladder Climber, the space-saving JL2, the higher-capacity JLX, and the Stairway GTL. If you have been researching a Jacobs Ladder machine, this is one of the few places you can try several in person.
StepMills: the revolving staircase
A StepMill has a real rotating staircase. You climb actual moving steps under your full bodyweight, the hardest and most athletic option, and the one most commercial gyms now build around. We carry the more compact 4G Stair Climber, the commercial-grade 8Gx, and the top-of-line StairMaster 10G with its large touchscreen console. If you want the toughest cardio in the smallest footprint, this is the family to look at.
FreeClimber: lower impact
The StairMaster FreeClimber 8FC uses two independent pedals rather than a moving staircase. It is lower impact and more forgiving, which suits beginners, rehab and recovery, and mixed-ability spaces, while still delivering the glute and quad work StairMaster is known for.
Which one is right for you?
For self-paced, back-friendly full-body work, the Jacobs Ladder. For maximum intensity and a real climbing feel, a StepMill. For lower-impact, accessible training, the FreeClimber. We will point you to the right one honestly, even when it is the less expensive machine, because the people helping you are trainers, not salespeople working a quota.
Why buy from Balance Fitness
We are family owned in San Mateo and an authorized StairMaster dealer, so you get a real manufacturer warranty and honest guidance. We deliver, install, and service each machine with our own crew across the Bay Area. Footprint and ceiling height matter with climbers, so measure your space or let us help. Financing is available, and we usually have floor models for anyone working to a number.
